Burkina Faso : Stopping Terrorism and Restoring Democracy

Because of the constant terrorist attacks in the nation a wave of violence and fear has gripped the small landlock country in West Africa. Why has this violence occurred? What is it source? What can be done to stop the violence of Islamic extremism and terrorism?             Prior to the arrival of the French colonialist. Burkina Faso was ruled by the Mossi people. They began their rule sometime between the 11 th  to 13 th  centuries. They established three powerful kingdoms, Ouagadougou, Tenkodogo and Yatenga.             In 1896, this area became a part of French West Africa. The French named the region Upper Volta. On December 11, 1958, Burkina Faso became the independent nation of Upper Volta. Its first President was Maurice Yameogo. Through Burkina Faso is rich in jewel...

Tigray-Ethiopia Accords: Time for US to Standup

Forever wars are not great diplomatic goals. They are destructive, waste lives, livelihoods, and fortunes. The war between Tigray Liberation Front and her once allies Ethiopia and Eritrea has been one of the most horrific the world has seen. Human rights abuses have mounted on both sides. Sexual assault has taken a macabre and evil twisted form of both war punishment and military tactic. This even though all three military forces do have females in their ranks. For the past few years. Children have been starved killed and run. Medical and food supplies have been cut off. Electricity to run the most elementary human needs have been cut off. Thousands have been run to southern Sudan. The only reason the war has been ignored is because somehow the color of skin has been become an acceptable way to hide.     Finally, after negotiations. Negotiations held in South Africa under the utmost secrecy a truce has been signed between Ethiopia and Tigray. The war has officially ende...

The Struggle for University City Homes

About a couple of months ago. I visited University City Homes. I noticed a great array of tables and tents. There were vendors distributing all types of odds and ends. When I walked inside, one lady was fixing plates of hot dogs and fried chicken with an assortment of vegetables and salads. There was a DJ spinning records, the kids were having a good time. They were all doing their best to drum up support for University City Homes. The government had sold the project to a developer who hoped to turn the project into a science building for the University of Pennsylvania.             Years ago, I remember walking through the project. University Homes was the premier elegant public housing complex. The buildings looked so modern and well-kept that one would think that the garden style complex was privately owned. Situated on Fortieth and Market Streets University City homes was in one of Philadelphia’s best n...

Tigray, A Humanitarian Crisis

In November 2020, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed sends troops into Southern Tigray, in response to an attack on a Ethiopian military base. The attacks on Ethiopian forces were a result of the postponement of the scheduled parliamentary elections because of the Covid 19 pandemic. Eritrea in alliance with Ethiopia would begin its assault from the North. During the first phase of the war the capital of Tigray was captured by the allied forces of Eritrea and Ethiopia.     during the struggle the capital was recaptured, and a long and very violent struggle began between the two forces. During this struggle the Tigray People’s Liberation Front joined forces with the Omoro Liberation Army, together they threatened to march on to Addis Ababa and overthrow the Prime Minister and his government. The war escalated and during the war many atrocities occurred. Both sides practiced a form of war rape.     Soldiers would publicly rape women whose ages would range...

Niger: Famine and Uranium

The earliest emblems of humanity’s existence in Niger can be found in cave paintings in the south near Tiquidt, Niger. These paints, tools and artifacts date back to around 280,000 BC. Around 10,000BC there is evidence of herding, farming and agricultural production. This is one the earliest beginnings of early human civilization.               The first slave state civilization in the region of Western Africa begins with the Empire of Ghana. Its capital was Koumbi Saleh. This African Empire lasted from 300 CE to 1100 CE. Though it lay to the west of modern-day Niger. It exerted a profound impact on the development of the region. It was a culture based on traditional African religion that lived side by side Muslim religion that entered the empire after the Muslim invasion of the region during the 7 th  century CE . This empire was developed from the tr...

Sweden, Finland, and NATO

Two Longstanding neutral nations are considering joining NATO. They for some reason feel swayed by the Russian invasion of the Ukraine   because of the alleged brutalities that have occurred in that nation . These   brutalities have according to several sources have been either staged or have been negatively reported by the US and Western Press. There is a slant in favor of the Ukraine that is obviously pro NATO. But that is not the real reason for this article. There is an element of absent-mindedness about what fascism is that escapes the minds of millions in Europe. There is the idea of antisemitism as well as racism being   quietly ignored in the both the United States and Europe . It is if the concern over George Floyd is being forgotten as pictures of the banner of NATO and the Red and Black swastika being carried side by side. It as if millions of lives lost fighting for an end of racism and against the extermination and enslavement of most of the human rac...

He stated an apology ,in an op-ed letter to the Washington Post .  In his letter he stated “We’re sorry to every family we’ve let down since our voluntary recall exacerbated our nation’s baby formula shortage.
